Day 14 Canyonlands National Park

May 15, day 14– Still on our side trip from the main route, we traveled to Canyonlands National Park.  While only about 30 miles away from Arches NP its scenery is a world of difference. Where Arches is fluid, Canyonlands is rugged and spacious with many canyon areas carved by water. We traveled and hiked in only one of the park’s three main zones, Island in the Sky.  The other two park zones are mainly accessed by off-road vehicles and challenging hikes. One of these areas known as “The Maze” is so remote that part of its lure is its past association as a hideout for outlaws such as Butch Cassidy.

Our hiking did bring us to another wind formed arch called Mesa Arch.  It frames a wide vista of a canyon area at a steep dropoff.

What a treat it is to read about your travels! Thanks for including both of
you in many photos as it is wonderful to see you two so very happy.
You are in the thoughts and prayers of so many at St. Pauls…..enjoy
every minute of your travels as you remember the special 1937 couple who
inspired you to take this trip. Perhaps your children will follow your example
    someday!

Thanks. We’ve joked about our adult children perhaps taking this trip. They have already embarked on portions! Erin and Val duplicated photos in both Sequoia and Yosemite a year ago. And, Krista and Rex went to the Griffith Observatory in LA just a couple months ago.
