Day 34 Wine Country

Mon. June 4 – Traveling north from San Francisco Earl and Ethel would have traveled through California’s wine country, although “future wine country” would be a more appropriate description. Grape growers and vintners were present in the 1930’s, but on a much smaller scale.  The industry really did not take off until the 1960’s and then, even more later as California’s reputation for producing fine wines took off in the 1980s.  We an organized bus tour of the Napa and Sonoma County grape and winery areas for a full day.  We stopped at four small vintners.  From there our destination was headed north for the Redwoods.
